When her car could not climb a hill near her home, Sergeant Berquist took Ms. Cubas and her daughter the rest of the way home in his truck.     Peterson going strong as 65th anniversary approaches

    With the breathtaking Rocky Mountains in the background, Peterson Air Force Base has long been a fixture in Air Force life. Originally Colorado Springs Army Air Field, the base was renamed in late 1942 for 1st Lt. Edward J. Peterson, a Coloradoan killed that year in the crash of an F-4 Lightning, the reconnaissance version of the P-38 fighter.
  • Workers attach crane lines to the McDonnell F-101B “VooDoo,” which was moved from the West Gate area Dec. 28 to make room for new outbound driving lanes. It took workers about four hours to move the 20,000 pound craft. The aircraft will be refurbished and reinstalled elsewhere after the West Gate project is done.   • Air Force officials announce promotions to major

    Air Force board members announced Dec. 19 their selection of 2,518 captains for promotion to major. Forty-six of them were from Team Pete.   • Col. Jay G. Santee, 21st Space Wing Commander, and his band of merry wing-staff elves spent a few hours Dec. 14 sharing holiday cheer. The caroling crew visited numerous work centers and customer service areas around base, such as; maintenance, support, medical and operations work centers and the MPF and pharmacy.     Safety Day at 100th GMD 'convinces' Soldiers to belt up

    A machine simulating a car making a panic stop at a mere 5 mph "convinced" 100th Missile Defense Brigade (Ground-based Midcourse Defense) Soldiers here that wearing a seat-belt was the smart thing to do. The machine, a "seatbelt sled" appropriately named "The Convincer," was brought by the Colorado Springs Police Department to an all-day Safety Day

    Julemand Festival a success

    Thule Air Base held its annual Julemand Festival Nov 25 raising more than $5,520. Operation Julemand - Julemand is the Danish word for Santa Claus - is an ongoing annual base fundraiser that benefits approximately 250 children in Qaanaaq, a municipality of about 900 people located 75 miles northwest of the base.
