21st Space Wing commemorates 9/11 at artifact unveiling

Members of the 21st Space Wing will pay tribute to the men and women who gave their lives during the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, in an unveiling ceremony scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 12 on Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station.

The ceremony will reveal an artifact donated to CMAFS by the National Homeland Defense Foundation, with assistance from other donors. The 9/11 artifact was released to the National Homeland Defense Foundation by officials from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Students from The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs campus and members of the 721st Civil Engineer Division worked together to design the display.

The presiding official will be Lt. Col. Joseph Turk, the 721st Mission Support Group and CMAFS commander, and the key speaker will be Lt. Gen. Michael J. Basla, vice commander of Air Force Space Command.
