Airman captured

Release Number: 010412

Teller County deputies captured Senior Airman Herbert Mullens III at about 12:50 p.m. April 20 in western El Paso County, Colo., near the Teller County line.

Mullens, stationed at Peterson Air Force Base, fled from custody while being returned to Teller County jail April 18. He is being held in pretrial confinement pending charges of driving while intoxicated, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.

"This wouldn't have been possible without our great partnership with area law enforcement, particularly Teller County Sheriff's Department," said Lt. Col. Joseph Musacchia, 21st Security Forces Squadron commander. "The alert and rapid notification from the community allowed us to bring him into custody. It would not have been possible without outstanding support from the community."

Mullens has been returned to the Teller County jail to await trial. The full details surrounding the escape are still under investigation.
