Media is invited to Schriever Air Force Base to attend the Pikes Peak Area 9/11 Commemoration ceremony, ‘A Community Remembers,’ at 9 a.m. Sept. 11. The ceremony will be held at the DeKok Building Courtyard in front of Building 210, the 50th Space Wing headquarters building.

This year marks the 16th anniversary of the attacks on our nation.

This ceremony is a reminder of why so many service members and first responders serve this nation and our communities, placing their lives on the line every day. It also pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the attacks.

Following the reception, there will be a wreath-laying presentation at the 9-11 artifact display. The artifact is a twisted iron beam from the World Trade Center Towers. Don Addy, Colorado Thirty Group chairman, formally requested pieces from ground zero be donated to Colorado Springs military installations.

Retired Lt. Gen. Larry D. James, former deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington D.C., and former 50th Space Wing commander, Schriever AFB, Colo., will be the keynote speaker.

Media interested in covering this event should RSVP by 3 p.m. Sept. 8 to ensure access to the base. For information contact Cheri Dragos-Pritchard, Chief of media operations, 50th Space Wing public affairs office at cheri.dragos-pritchard@us.af.mil or 567-5040. Please plan to arrive at the Visitor's Center no later than 8:20 a.m., and depart around 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 11.
